Top 30 Crochet Stitches for 2024
Happy New Year! It is 2024 and I could not be more excited! A new year, a fresh start full of possibilities! I’ve already started planning out what I want to crochet this year and I have no idea how I’ll get to everything cause there is just too much I wanna do! Do you feel like that? Sometimes I come into the new year having no idea where I want to go or what I want to do, and that can really negatively set up the rest of my year. Especially with crochet, sometimes I just want to sit down and make a blanket, but I don’t wanna do the same granny square I always do. Sometimes I love crocheting double crochet but want something with a bit more pizazz… well… here it is! I’ve compiled the classics and the newbies of the crochet stitches world into one spot for you to enjoy and discover! Let’s jump in!

The Basics
Slip Stitch
The slip stitch is the shortest stitch in crochet and great for beginners! This crochet stitch tutorial from Sarah Maker is super helpful and easy to follow!
Single Crochet
Most of the time, when you start learning crochet, you start with single crochet. It’s a great foundation, especially if you want to crochet amigurumi! I love Crochet 365 Knit Too‘s tutorials and her amigurumi patterns are so adorable!
Half Double Crochet
Looking for something in between single and double crochet? This half double crochet tutorial from Crochet 365 Knit Too is simple and easy to understand!
Double Crochet
A classic crochet stitch… the double crochet. Can’t go wrong with this one! Using Crochet 365 Knit Too‘s lovely double crochet tutorial you will be on your way to making pretty much anything you want!
Treble Crochet
Treble crochet is the perfect stitch for when you are looking for something nice and tall for your project! Had to include Crochet 365 Knit Too‘s tutorial for this one because it is just too good!
The Fun Stuff
Waistcoat Stitch
Love the look of knit but hate knitting? This waistcoat stitch from Daisy Farm Crafts is a great way to get that knit look whilst still crocheting! How cool is that?
Crab Stitch
Looking for a fun way to end your blanket borders? I love this crab stitch, or reverse single crochet, from Crochet 365 Knit Too!
Puff Stitch
I love the puff stitch so much I’ve made TWO patterns with it so far! This is my Sweet Dreams Beanie and if you are more of a cottagecore, nature-loving crocheter I also made this Forest Sprite Beanie! Both patterns show you how to decrease your puff stitch too!
C2C Crochet
C2C, or Corner to Corner crochet… with just a few double crochets and chains, you can make my Arabella Avenue Baby Blanket! If you are looking for something less intermediate, just stick with one color, or try out a fun ombre yarn!
Moss Stitch
Trying to level up your regular single crochet? This moss stitch on this Baby Joe’s Blanket of Many Colors is just gorgeous! Super easy and fun to make!
Shell Stitch
Fun fact about me… I actually learned how to crochet with double crochet before single crochet! Fun stitches like the shell stitch in this Sunset Shore Baby Blanket are just so much fun to whip up. Plus… double crochet whips together twice as fast as single crochet. Work smarter not harder right?
Slit Stitch
If you are more of a lover of single crochet, there are lots of options for you! This fun slit stitch from Crochet 365 Knit Too has a creative chaos to it that I am just obsessed with!
Herringbone Half Double Crochet
I just adore the texture of the herringbone stitch, and if you are looking for the perfect happy medium of double and single crochet, this half double herringbone from Crochet 365 Knit Too is just what you need!
Bobble Stitch
I can’t get enough of the bobble stitch, especially used as a heart in my Over the Rainbow Baby Blanket and Heart and Soul Baby Blanket! So cute!
Star Stitch
If you are searching for a unique stitch, I also used the star stitch for my yellow squares in my Over the Rainbow Baby Blanket and they turned out fabulous!
Bead Stitch
The bead stitch, or I’ve also heard it called the blueberry stitch, is also a fun and out-of-the-box crochet stitch that I used on my Over the Rainbow Baby Blanket! What do you call this stitch?
Waffle Stitch
My two favorite things about the waffle stitch is its amazing texture and how easy it is to make! This tutorial by Heart Hook Home is super easy to follow and great for beginners!
Diamond Stitch
Now that you’ve heard of the waffle stitch, take a look at its estranged cousin: the diamond stitch! While a little bit more intermediate level, this one is a great one to try after you’ve enjoyed your fill of the waffle stitch! Check out how it turned out on my Over the Rainbow Baby Blanket!
Sedge Stitch
This one reminds me of that slit stitch but with double crochet, don’t you think? How cool is it that crochet has so many different stitch patterns! This one from Crochet 365 Knit Too is not one to be missed!
Grit Stitch
Looking for something similar but different to the sedge stitch? Meet the grit stitch! Another lovely easy-to-follow crochet tutorial from Crochet 365 Knit Too!
Rope Stitch
Something about the lacey style of this rope stitch from Crochet 365 Knit Too just makes me happy! What would you use this stitch for?
Iris Stitch
If the rope stitch is too holey or lacey for your taste, this iris stitch from The Unraveled Mitten is a great alternative!
Side Saddle Stitch
Is it just me or does this side saddle stitch from Make and Do Crew look like the crazy relative of corner to corner (C2C) crochet? I love it! Such a cool design!
Alpine Stitch
I have been obsessed with this alpine design from The Spruce Crafts and I NEED to try it out! But I can’t decide what to make with it… any suggestions?
Block Stitch
This block stitch from Make and Do Crew is such a cool combination of granny squares and the moss stitch! Cool thing too is that you can use it like this in a square or straight rows too!
Harlequin Stitch
Okay, now we’re getting into some cool complex stitches! This gorgeous harlequin stitch from Daisy Farm Crafts reminds me of fireworks and feels so explosive and dynamic!
Jasmine Star Stitch
If you are looking for a feminine, floral, and soothing crochet stitch design, this jasmine stitch from 1 Dog Woof is beautiful!
Lotus Stitch
Somehow this lotus stitch from Jewels and Jones reminds me of the shell stitch, puff stitch, AND jasmine stitch! I love that with crochet you can constantly build off of things and create something new!
Feather Stitch
Another romantic style crochet stitch is the feather stitch from Hooked by Robin. A beautiful mesh of inspiration from the herringbone and puff stitches!
Crocodile Stitch
Now this stitch is like no other! This crocodile stitch from The Spruce Crafts is sure to make any design a showstopper!
