The Story

When I first had the idea for this crochet lovey pattern, I thought Darrel was going to be this cute, fun, and easy little project… little did I know that Darrel has a mischievous side that was going to humble me to my core.

I have always struggled with time management, often finding myself ending the day having accomplished so many things, but also only half of what I had originally put on my to do list. I took some time off to enjoy the Easter weekend, but things started to pile up. Monday came and went, no duck. On Tuesday, I promised myself I would take Darrel to work so I could finish him and this blog post before the end of the day. I am a substitute teacher at the local high school, which means I’m basically just a glorified babysitter, so I figured this plan would not be a problem. Silly me! Darrel made sure I forgot to bring my Polyfil for his head… so again… Tuesday came and went, and, no duck.

Wednesday came and HALLELUIAH! The duck was finished! However, Darrel decided he wanted me to take my sweet time making him, so by the time I was done it was too dark for photographs. Promising myself that I would wake up early before subbing again on Thursday, so that I could take some sunny morning pictures, I went to sleep… blissfully unaware of Darrel’s devious plotting…

I slept in! My alarm never went off! (Gee, I wonder how that happened… *glares at Darrel*) Determined to not let Darrel get the best of me, I rush to get ready and snap some pictures. What I didn’t know is that Darrel can apparently also control the weather, making all my photos dark and of lesser quality than usual, but I HAD to make it work! This pattern should have gone up days ago and NO MORE was I going to let some little duck get in my way!

I arrive at school just in time, settle into my desk for the day, and realize… I never weighed the yarn. *face palm*

Darrel has bested me, I can’t finish the pattern and post it this afternoon. *sigh* Maybe ONE day you’ll see this pattern and be able to make your very own sneaky little duck lovey. Other than his mischievous tendencies, he’s really a very sweet duck. Just look at him! You can’t help but love this little guy for all his quirks. Please don’t let my traumatic experience stop you from enjoying all this little crochet lovey pattern has to offer. Don’t let Darrel win!

However, if you are anti-duck, I have an adorable little bunny lovey and moose crochet lovey pattern that you are sure to fall in love with!

But enough about me and my strange duck issues… let’s jump in!

The Crochet Lovey Pattern

A little note: There is no particular order that these pieces need to be crocheted in. For me personally, I loved seeing the lovey blanket portion come together, which motivated me to work on the other pieces, but feel free to crochet in whatever order works for you!

I would recommend waiting to assemble the pieces until they are all made and you can just do them all at once. That way, you can also spot pieces that might need to be redone before assembling!

Lastly, for little ones, I recommend avoiding any little plastic eyes that may be a potential choking hazard. I like the simplicity (and ease) of doing no eyes on my loveys, but I’ve also sewn eyes on my crochet preemie octopus pattern in the past that you could use for inspiration!
