Flower Power Crochet Steering Wheel Cover Pattern

Who else hates that weird in-between weather when it’s warm enough that you forget your driving gloves, but cold enough that your steering wheel is somehow FREEZING! Maybe it’s just my chronic forgetfulness, but this turned into a consistent issue! I was determined to find a practical, yet stylish solution. Thus, the Flower Power Crochet Steering Wheel Cover Pattern was born!

The Idea

Most of us learn the traditional “Granny Square” early on into our crocheting journey, but I’ve always been fascinated with the amount of variations to this square that have been created throughout crochet history! One variation, often called the Sunburst Granny Square, has been booming in popularity for years, especially being used for purses and sweaters. This variation has always been one of my all-time favorite granny square variations. Something about that cutesy feminine quality of the flower style just makes me swoon.

Thankfully, my husband was not completely turned off by this square and only kindly requested that the colors remain somewhat neutral, which is something I try to do with crochet projects that are for “us,” such as our Unbreakable Bond Blanket. Of course, I ended up sneaking some frilly shell stitches onto the top and bottom of this crochet steering wheel cover pattern because I just couldn’t resist! Are you ready to make your own? Let’s jump in!

The Pattern

Materials

Size

Finished size fits an average car steering wheel. Each square measures at approx. 5″ x 5″.

Special Stitches

Puff Stitch: Working into the same stitch, yarn over, insert hook into stitch and pull up a loop. *Yarn over, insert hook into stitch again, and pull up a loop.* Repeat *to* once more, leaving seven loops on hook. Yarn over and pull through all strands on the hook. Ch 1. Puff st made.

Bobble Stitch: Working into the same stitch, yarn over, insert the hook into the stitch and pull up a loop. Yarn over and pull through 2 loops. 2 loops are left on the hook (and one incomplete double crochet is made). Repeat these steps 4 more times.
